Many therapists, including myself, do not bill insurance. Insurance companies want to pay 60 to 100 per session. A full case load for a therapist is 20 clients per week. It is difficult for therapists to make a living this way.
Insurance does not cover couples therapy directly. Instead, you can be diagnosed with other issues that result from distress in your sexual relationship such as anxiety, depression, adjustment disorder, and others.
Your therapist will issue a superbill (a receipt of payment) that includes information needed by insurance company (diagnosis code, procedure code). You can bill sex therapy as a family therapy procedure code (90847) or an individual procedure code (90837).
Schedule A Fix Number Of Sessions: You don’t need to be in therapy for years. See it as an investment where you are willing to pay a certain amount of money to fix your problems.
Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts: You can use these accounts to pay for therapy services.
